Short Description of “Exploring Myanmar by Land”

This tour is designed to help the travelers to experience the most industrious city; Yangon and the most famous historical sites of Myanmar such as Bagan, Mandalay, the flower city; Pyin Oo Lwin, Amarapura, Mingun and let the travelers explore the Inle Lake, known as the Venice of Southeast Asia, floating garden, leg rowing fishermen, arts and crafts workshop and the Indein village which resembles the Angkor Wat of Cambodia.

Day 1: Arrival Yangon – City tour (by car)

  • Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by the Marco Polo representative at Yangon international airport and you will be transferred to the hotel.

  • After a brief freshen up at hotel, the tour begins with significant places of Yangon including Sule Pagoda, the City Hall & Colonial buildings, Chaukhtatkyi Reclining Pagoda, Karaweik Hall & Royal Barge on the Kandawgyi Royal Lake. The view is just breathtaking and it will be a great spot for photo shooting.
  • At sunset, we will visit to the grand Shwedagon Pagoda, the glistening golden stupa that towers over the capital and one of the wonders of the world, is the spiritual centre of the country.
  • Stay for an overnight at a hotel in Yangon.

Day 2: Yangon – Mandalay (by flight) – Maymyo (by car)

  • After breakfast, we will go to the airport for the flight to Mandalay.
  • Upon arrival to Mandalay, we will proceed to Pyin Oo Lwin, a short the distance of 40 km from Mandalay.
  • Pyin Oo Lwin is renowned for its cool atmosphere, color flowers and waterfalls, the botanical garden and colonial era buildings.
  • Sightseeing continues to the National Kandawgyi Garden, the beautiful botanical gardens of Pyin Oo Lwin. The cool weather in Pyin Oo Lwin allows many flowers and fruits, commonly found in temperate climates, to thrive here.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Pyin Oo Lwin.

Day 3: Maymyo – Mandalay (by car)

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we wil drive back to Mandalay, the second largest city with its rich cultural heritage, friendly people, Myanmar’s wonderful culture and traditional art.

  • Today, the visit will include famous Mahagandayon monastery at Amarapura. The monastery is considered to be the largest Buddhist University in the country where you can witness thousands of monks studying and practicing sermons and dhamma together.
  • In the late afternoon, we will visit Golden Palace Monastery, the most well known wooden monastery in the country, famous for its intricate carvings. It is the only original building from Mandalay Palace having miraculously survived the bombings of the second World War. Then, e will go to Kuthodaw Pagoda known as the biggest book in the world with hundreds of marble slabs inscribed with the entire Buddhist Canon.
  • Enjoy the sunset from Mandalay Hill and enjoy the panoramic view of the plain.

  • Overnight at the hotel in Mandalay.

Day 4: Mandalay (by car)

  • Have breakfast at the hotel and the highlight of the day includes a visit to colorful Zegyo market. At the market, we will stroll to experience the local people selling local delicacies, traditional Myanmar snacks, clothes, and handicrafts. This is also a great place for sovenirs shopping.

  • Then, we will visit to Mahamuni Temple – the most revered pagoda in Mandalay which houses a huge bronze Buddha image covered in thick layers of gold is one of the three holiest places in Myanmar, and to the Royal Palace where Myanmar Kings lived until the colonial era of British.
  • In Mandalay, we will also visit the gold leaf making workshop, where 24K gold is transformed into super thin gold leaves using only precise hammer blows, a technique which even hi-tech equipment cannot match.
  • In the afternoon before the sunset, we can visit the traditional cotton and silk weavers whose ancestors used to weave beautiful robes for the royalties. The weaving of silk longyis is so intricate and colorful that they can only finish an inch a day and it is truly an astounding art.
  • At sunset, visit the most picturesque U Bein Bridge on Taung-tha-man Lake, a half-mile long teak bridge also known as the longest teak bridge in the world.
  • Overnight at Hotel in Mandalay.

Day 5: Mandalay – Sagaing – Monywa (by car)

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will have three hours drive to Monywa, visiting Sagaing en route the peaceful neighboring town on the other side of the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River. Sagaing can be said as the heart of Buddhism in Myanmar due to its peaceful and tranquil atmosphere and it is a home for thousands of monks. The whole region is filled with over 600 monasteries and nunneries. On top of the Sagaing hill, we can enjoy the bird-eye view of Sagaing and the famous Ayeyarwaddy River flowing elegantly!

  • The visit includes Son-Oo-Pon-Nya-Shin pagoda and Kaung mhu daw pagoda.
  • Sagaing is also famous for its silversmiths, whose work follows traditions passed down for centuries creating the most intricate designs using simple tools.
  • After that, we will proceed to Monywa.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Monywa.

Day 6: Monywa (by car)

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit to the most significant pagodas in Monywa which are Thanboday Pagoda and Bodi Tahtaung. In addition to the pagoda, Monywa is another popular destination in Myanmar for its Hpo Win Taung Caves which displays wall paintings inside the cave and Shwe Ba Hill.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Monywa.

Day 7: Monywa – Bagan (by car)

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we will bid farewell to Monywa and travel to Bagan via Pakkhuku, visiting the famous sites such as Thihoshin Temple, market and cheroot making workshop.

  • Upon arrival to Bagan in the late afternoon, we will check in at the hotel and visit a few temples to enjoy the sunset. The specific temples are to be confirmed by adjusting the arrival time.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Bagan.

Day 8: Bagan (by car)

  • After breakfast at hotel, we will start sightseeing trip in Bagan. Bagain is considered as one of the richest archaelogrical sites in Asia for its thousands of temples, the ancient architecture and the heritage.
  • The visit in Bagan would include the Bagan archeaological museum, Shwezigon Pagoda, Ananda Temple, Gubyaukgyi Temple, Mya Zedi Pagoda, Manuha temple and other significant temples. Then, we will go to Shwesandaw pagoda which is built in a style of pyramind with terraces as to climb to the top to enjoy the breathtaking sunset over Bagan.

Day 9: Bagan (by car)

  • This morning you will be transferred to Bagan Nyaung Oo Airport for flight to Heho.

  • Upon arrival to Heho, you will be transferred to Nyaung Shwe which is known as the door of “Inle Lake”.
  • The Inle Lake is said to be the Venice of South East Asia for its unspoiled nature, breathtaking beauty surrounded by green mountains, the unique leg-rowing of the Inthas; the native lake dwellers. The lake is considered as a rare treasure among all the most famous tourist destinations in Myanmar.
  • In the evening, we can enjoy Bagan’s most popular sunset at Bu Paya overlooking to Ayeyarwaddy River. The sun setting as if it is going down into the river!
  • During the whole day exploration trip in Inle, we will have a splendid opportunity to observe the daily life styles of Inn-tha tribes, the styles leg rowing, floating gardens and the traditional houses built in the lake.
  • The visit also include the must see place in Inle which is the revered pagoda called Phaung Daw U Kyaung and the small shops which sell traditional souvenirs and local delicacies. This vast lake has so much to offer such as Inle lake heritage museum.
  • Enjoy the marvelous view of sunset between the mountain and the lake!
  • Overnight a hotel in Inle Lake or Nyaung Shwe.

Day10: Bagan – Heho (by flight) ~ Inle Lake (by boat)

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we can continue our visit to Nyaung Oo Market, then proceed to Sulamani temple, Shwegugyi Temple, and Minanthu village.

  • In the afternoon, we will give a visit to local lacquer -ware workshop to observed and learn about the skilled artisans at work on the various stages over a period of six months.
  • Then, we will proceed to old Bagan for a pony cart tour among the temples; Tayokpye, Htilominlo and Thatbyinnyu Temple before sunset.
  • In the evening, we can enjoy Bagan’s most popular sunset at Bu Paya overlooking to Ayeyarwaddy River. The sun setting as if it is going down into the river!
  • Overnight at a hotel in Bagan.

Day 11: Inle Lake (by boat)

  • This day is also about enjoy another full day in the breathtaking lake which is being surrounded by the mountain. The reason as to have another full day in Inle Lake is to let you all enjoy the market day which is held once in every five days. This is not something we can see everyday, right?

  • We will see all the local people rowing their boats, meeting at the market selling all kinds of fresh food and vegetables and other traditional snacks. People do shopping from the boats and Inle Lake is the only place in the world where we can see such scence!
  • In the afternoon, we can continue visiting to other significant place in Inle such as Inle Lake Museum and cat jumping monastery. This vast lake offers so many things to look at.
  • In the evening, we can enjoy Bagan’s most popular sunset at Bu Paya overlooking to Ayeyarwaddy River. The sun setting as if it is going down into the river!
  • Enjoy the sunset between the mountain and the lake!
  • Overnight at a hotel in Inle Lake or Nyaung Shwe.

Day 12: Inle Lake – Excursions to Indein (by boat)

  • After breakfast at hotel, we will discover the enchanted Indein village, which is surrounded on both sides by high hills.
  • After a short distance walk through the bamboo forest , the exciting Indein Temple complex is situated in the western shore of the lake and most of the internal wall of the ruins of 1054 shrines will create some amazing moment of your trip. The temple is also well-known for its resemblance to Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia.
  • In the afternoon, we will visit to Impawkhone silk weaving village, a blacksmith, Cheroot making and surrounding villages.
  • Overnight at hotel in Nyaung Shwe or Inle Lake.

Day 13: Inle Lake – Heho – Yangon (by flight)

  • After having breakfast at the hotel, enjoy your whole morning until you will be transferred to the Heho airport for the flight to Yangon.

  • Upon arrival to Yangon, we will visit to the “Bogyoke Aung San Market” also known as Scott market which has an enormous array of consumer goods and has the largest collections of souvenirs from all over Myanmar. It is a must place for all travellers to do any souvenirs shopping. Hundreds of shops displaying variety of items such as paintings, traditional clothes, embroidered paintings, handicrafts and Myanmar’s gems and jewellery will all look tempting to you as if they are asking you to bring them to your country!
  • After shopping, we will proceed to China Town for a stroll and enjoy some delicacies. The China Town is buzzing with many small shops displaying fresh food and vegetables, and delicious restaurants.
  • If the time permits, we can stroll along the Yangon River breathing fresh air, enjoying the nature and end up the day.
  • Stay for an overnight at a hotel in Yangon.

Day 14: Yangon (Departure)

  • Breakfast at the Hotel, and enjoy another morning in Yangon.

  • You will be transferred back to the airport for your departure flight and to end this wonderful journey.
